How to Create & Style Manga Lashes | Mapping & Styling Lash Guide

Manga lashes, also called Manhwa or Manhua lashes, are nothing short of captivating. Even if you're not into anime, there's no denying that manga lashes have emerged as one of the most enchanting lash trends in the past few years. This spiky lash style has taken TikTok and Instagram by storm, making “Anime eyes” one of the most in-demand looks at the moment.

Unlike some TikTok trends that rely on filters, you can achieve this look without any virtual magic. Influencers have been getting creative with false lashes, inspiring their followers to try DIY Manga lashes at home. But we’ve got a solution that’s a bit more permanent, definitely safer, and less fussy for your clients. If you’re new to the wonderful world of anime, hold on tight – you're in for an exciting adventure.

    What Are Manga Lashes?

Manga lashes take their inspiration from the vibrant worlds of comic books, shows, and movies from Japan’s manga, Korea’s manhwa, and China’s manhua. While these art forms differ in terms of style and storytelling, when it comes to lashes, they all fall under the same umbrella. Although many modern anime characters may not sport these spiky lashes, classic icons like Sailor Venus from Sailor Moon or Kirigiri from Danganronpa have helped make them synonymous with anime aesthetics – making them a go-to for cosplay. Think wide-eyed, spiky, and wispy – that’s the vibe you’re aiming for.

But what exactly do Manga lash extensions look like? You may have already seen them, even if you don’t know the name. These lashes mimic the bold, spiky clusters that you see on anime characters, with longer, noticeable spikes spaced along the lash line, giving a fluttery, eye-catching effect.

    How to Map Manga Lashes

Like we always say, every lash map should be tailored to your client’s face shape, eye shape, and natural lashes. But don’t worry, when it comes to styling, we’ve got a free Manga lash map that takes the guesswork out of it for you. Whether your client wants a dramatic look or something more subtle, this map will help you create the perfect result.

Manga lashes are known for their distinctive spiky look, with long lashes standing out among shorter, fluffy ones. The key is layering – start by placing shorter lashes on the bottom layer, while saving the longer, dramatic spikes for the top layer. The middle layer should use closed fans to blend everything together seamlessly. For that top layer, closed fans are essential to creating those bold spikes, which need to be placed with a bit more space between them than in a Wet Look or Kim K set. This allows the spikes to really pop.

    Top Lash Layer:

For the top layer, we suggest using closed fans and spikes with 0.05 lashes, ranging from 10mm to 14mm. The lash lengths should increase from the inner corner outwards, before shortening again near the outer corner. Make sure to space these spikes evenly to ensure a symmetrical lash line.

    Middle Lash Layer:

The middle layer should also use 0.05 closed fans, with lengths from 8mm to 12mm. This layer forms the base that supports the top layer’s spikes.

    Bottom Lash Layer:

For the bottom layer, shorter lashes are key. We recommend using fluffy, short 0.04 fans, with lengths ranging from 6mm to 10mm. This will add that multidimensional effect that makes the spikes stand out.`

    Curls:

When it comes to curl types, it really depends on your client’s natural lashes. Tailoring the curl to your client’s needs will give the best results!

London Lash Top Tip: To create spikes easily, use a micro swab with Primer along the tips of the lashes while they're on the strip. This will help keep the tips together, making them easier to pick up. Just be careful not to get the Primer on the base, as this could cause glue retention issues. Bottom Lashes

As our lash map shows, Manga lashes can be applied to both the top and bottom lash lines. Adding bottom lashes will really make your client’s Manga lash set pop, enhancing their overall look. Don’t skip this step – bold bottom lashes are the perfect finishing touch!
