How to Use Gel Remover to Remove Eyelash Extensions
Removing eyelash extensions is a professional service that can sometimes be overlooked by clients and lash artists. Regular clients may return for an infill or allow their extensions to shed naturally, but there will also be occasions when a complete or partial removal is required.
Clients should never attempt to remove professional eyelash extensions themselves at home. Adding professional lash removal to your treatment menu provides clients with a controlled option while creating another valuable service for your business.

Lash Removal Services
Conversations about eyelash extensions usually focus on application, tools, products and aftercare. Knowing how to remove extensions safely is just as important. Explain the removal process during the client consultation and warn clients about the risks of attempting to dissolve, pull or pick off their extensions at home.
You can learn more about these risks in our guide to DIY versus professional lash removal.
Offering professional removal can also encourage clients to return to your salon. Some clients may not want an infill or may decide to take a break from extensions. As the lash artist who applied the set, you will know which products were used and can select an appropriate professional removal method.
Gel Remover
Gel Remover has a more fluid consistency than Cream Remover. This allows it to penetrate adhesive bonds efficiently, but the consistency also means that careful, controlled application is essential.
Cream Remover has a thicker consistency that stays more securely where it is placed. This can make it easier to control, particularly when removing a complete lash set. Read our guide to using Cream Remover for a more detailed comparison.
Gel Remover should be applied to the adhesive bonds using a Micro Brush. Avoid the skin, eyelid and eye area. Use only the amount required and always follow the application time and instructions supplied with the product.
The time required will depend on the remover, adhesive, number of extensions and density of the lash set. If you are unfamiliar with the application technique, practise controlled product placement on a Mannequin Head before offering the treatment to clients.
Pro tip: Gel Remover can also help remove adhesive residue from lash tweezers. However, a dedicated Glue Remover for Tweezers is the preferred product for routine tool cleaning. Discover more ideas in our guide to using different products in your lash extension kit.

Applying Gel Remover Safely
Gel Remover must be applied carefully to prevent the product from seeping towards the client’s eyes. Prepare the treatment area by securing the lower lashes with suitable Teflon Non-Stick Gel Eye Patches.
Work methodically and apply the remover only to the adhesive bonds. Avoid spreading a large amount of product across the entire lash line.
- Ensure the client’s eyes are completely closed and the lower lashes are securely covered.
- Dispense a small amount of Gel Remover onto a fresh Micro Brush.
- Use Isolation Tweezers to separate the area you are treating.
- Apply the remover carefully to the adhesive bonds without touching the skin or eyelid.
- Allow it to process for the time stated in the product instructions.
- Gently slide the loosened extensions away from the natural lashes. Never pull or force extensions that still offer resistance.
Processing time can vary depending on the lash style, density and adhesive. If the bonds have not dissolved sufficiently, allow the product more time in accordance with its instructions rather than pulling at the extensions.
Once the extensions have been removed, use a clean Cleansing Applicator to clear away remaining product and adhesive residue. Thoroughly cleanse the natural lashes before applying any further pretreatment products.
If another lash set is being applied, follow your usual pretreatment routine using products such as Pre-Treatment Lash Cleanser and Premium Lash Primer. Make sure the natural lashes are completely clean and dry before introducing fresh adhesive.

Professional adhesive removal can release fumes as the bonds break down. Maintain suitable ventilation and position a Glamcor Flow to draw fumes away from the client’s face and treatment area. The airflow should be directed carefully rather than blowing fumes towards the client.

Gel Remover can be used for targeted removal or complete lash-set removal when applied by a trained professional. Familiarise yourself with the product instructions, practise precise application and never leave a client unattended while remover is processing.
