The Challenges of Being a Lash Tech and Why Headaches Don’t Have to Be One of Them

Let’s be honest—being a Lash Tech can come with its fair share of headaches, whether it's a last-minute cancellation or realising you’ve run out of the exact product you need! But we’re talking literal headaches here, and they’re the last thing we need while lashing. Here are four reasons why you might be getting more headaches than you should and a few simple tips to help you prevent them.

Reason 1: Lash Glue Fumes

Eyelash extension glue naturally releases fumes, and unfortunately, there’s not much you can do to stop that entirely. But the good news is, you can do a few things to minimise how much they bother you.

First off, check the temperature and humidity of your room. Lash glue is super sensitive to its surroundings, particularly humidity. If the humidity is too low, the glue takes longer to set, which means those fumes will linger for longer.

Another tip is to use a Jade Stone rather than a glue ring. Sure, it’s handy to have the glue right there on your finger, but keeping it that close to your face (and your client’s) means you're both breathing in way more fumes than necessary. Plus, lash glue in a ring dries out faster, so you end up using more than you should. A Jade Stone keeps it fresher and farther away from your airways. Win-win!

If ventilation is an issue, especially in rooms without opening windows, think about getting something like a Glamcor Flow. It quietly circulates the air and blows those fumes away without taking up much space.

Reason 2: Poor Lighting

When you’re working on something as detailed as lash extensions, good lighting is an absolute must—not just for a flawless result but also to avoid straining your eyes. If you’re straining your eyes to see those tiny lashes, it’s only a matter of time before you end up with a headache.

Proper lighting is the solution. Natural light and regular lamps just won’t cut it when you need to see every little lash. Investing in something specialised like a Glamcor Light is a game-changer. They’re super bright, adjustable, and will save your eyes from all that unnecessary strain. Plus, they’re perfect for snapping stunning lash photos for your portfolio!

Reason 3: Bad Posture

It might not be the first thing that comes to mind, but bad posture can be a major culprit when it comes to headaches. Tension in your neck, shoulders, and back can easily trigger headaches, especially after long hours of lashing.

Here’s where a good lash setup comes in. To prevent this, make sure your lash station is set up with comfort and ergonomics in mind. Make sure your chair and lash bed are adjustable so you’re not hunched over or straining to reach your client. You also need to pay attention to your client’s position, too. A good lash pillow can help keep them at the right height so you’re not hunched over while working.

Also, don’t forget to take breaks! Stretch, move around, and give your muscles a chance to relax. Even just a few minutes between clients can make a huge difference in preventing tension headaches.

Reason 4: Dehydration

We all know that dehydration can cause headaches, but it’s so easy to forget to drink enough water when you’re back-to-back with clients. Dehydration can also leave you feeling sluggish and unfocused, which isn’t ideal when precision is key.

It’s a simple habit that’ll help you avoid unnecessary headaches and stay on top form during those long lash sessions.

There will be days when you’ll finish work and feel completely wiped out—headache and all—but it doesn’t have to be a regular occurrence. By making a few small adjustments to your workspace or investing in the right tools, you can significantly reduce how often you experience those dreaded headaches. Seriously, a healthy work setup is worth every penny when it comes to your well-being!
